Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
