TikTok Provides Users Authority to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Their Feeds

TikTok is introducing a new feature that enables them to lessen the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the platform announced that it presently contains more than 1 bn AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the next few weeks before a widespread release. This advancement comes amid a increase in AI-generated material, fueled by emerging AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Recent reports that nearly a tenth of the fastest-growing video streams on a competing service only show AI-generated videos. A considerable share of this output is considered low-quality AI content, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is often nonsensical or surreal.

Based on user feedback that many people enjoy content produced via AI tools, including AI artwork to informative clips, and we aim to give people the power to increase or decrease of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform shared that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its network identified as AI-generated. In total, over 100 million videos are submitted to the platform daily, making AI content a limited part of its total content library.

User Control Features

Members will be capable of decrease or raise the amount of AI content they view by opening the topic control option in the platform and picking the AI content topic. Other topics that can already be controlled under the filter include politics, fashion, aesthetics, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

Its guidelines require content makers to identify “realistic” AI-generated content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of celebrities or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is not labeled can be taken down under its community policies.

Additionally, the platform will henceforth apply an AI-generated watermark to content created with its own AI tools, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying AI-generated material. This action is intended to help prevent users from trying to evade the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is also launching a two million dollar educational fund for specialists and groups to develop informative material about ethical AI use. This project will support charitable organizations focused on teaching coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

TikTok has defended its moderation strategy, following discussion over intentions to cut jobs for numerous review team members in Britain. The company is set to reduce 439 jobs in its user protection division in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals voicing alarm that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead explained that human moderation would still have a role, but automated tools can safeguard staff by removing the most harmful content ahead of it gets reviewed by humans. TikTok reported a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content reviewed by human moderators over the last 12 months due to reliance on its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to combine staff and AI to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s highly necessary to minimize viewing of harmful content as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is proving valuable process content quickly.”
